Sales of sandals soar at Fitness Footwear

Hertfordshire based online retailer Fitness Footwear has seen a sudden surge in the demand for its wide range of sandals following the bright and sunny weather at the weekend.

The online store, best known for offering the web's widest choice of sports and outdoors footwear also stocks an extensive range of sandals for all manner of warm weather activities. In recent years summer sales of sandals has always been profitable, but with the rising demand for the critically acclaimed and celebrity endorsed Fit Flops, Fitness Footwear has had to order extra supplies of sandals.

Fitness Footwear Partner, Emma Barlow said: "After such a cold and frosty winter, it seems that everyone wants to get outside and embrace the warm weather."

Fitness Footwear has been selling record numbers of Fit Flops since early January. Marketed as the flip flop with the gym built in, Fit Flops are an innovative sandal which gives you a workout while you walk. This is all thanks to the integrated wobble-board midsole which slightly destabilising the foot with every step. The result is the slow twitching muscles in the legs and buttocks being activated for longer periods of time while walking, which rapidly burns off calories while toning these areas to result in slimmer legs and a smaller bum. It's obvious to see why they have been such a big hit for women with neither the time nor money to attend gym classes.

Until recently, the FitFlop Walkstar Black was the most popular style of Fit Flops footwear. However, since the beginning of spring, the FitFlop Walkstar Oasis has overtaken the best selling flip flop with its soft, neutral tones which are more ideally suited to the brighter seasons.

Regarding the changing weather, Mrs Barlow said, "Suddenly the sun comes out and everyone's out in short and sandals. And if they haven't got any sandals, they go and order some online."

The growing convenience of shopping online has allowed Fitness Footwear to dodge the worst effects of the slowing economy and helped to increase profits instead. The warmer weather has also sparked a growth in shopping online.

"Why drive all the way to the shops and back when you can easily find what you want online? Then you can spend the rest of your day in the sun" Mrs Barlow suggested.

To cater for their loyal following of outdoor enthusiasts, Fitness Footwear has also made a wide range of walking sandals available from many of the biggest brands in walking boots, which include Merrell, Brasher, Hi-Tec and many more well known names.

The demand for walking sandals in preference to traditional walking boots has also seen a rapid rise. Many hikers are now swapping their sweaty shoes for cool and breathable walking sandals. The walking sandals in question feature all the grip and underfoot support of real walking boots, but with a number of fresh, but snug fitting styles to make summer a more pleasurable time for this dedicated to walking in the country or along rocky trails. As a well known Merrell stockist, it's no surprise that Fitness Footwear's biggest selling sandal is the Merrell Chameleon II Kahuna with the Brasher Trekker Nubuck in close second. But the biggest seller of spring and summer year on year for Fitness Footwear is Birkenstock sandals.

As the best recognised sandal band worldwide, Birkenstock is the sandal of choice for a broad range of people. Already styles of Birkenstock Gizeh and Birkenstock Madrid sandals have been a popular choice amongst women as a cool fashion shoe for casual and often evening attire, while the Birkenstock Arizona holds its universal appeal as the trademark Birkenstock sandal which champions the cork footed, twin straps and golden Birkenstock print.

After the freezing winter which blanketed Great Britain in snow, weather forecasters predict a scorching summer to follow, so we could all be wearing shorts and sandals in just a matter of weeks.
