APH advise holidaymakers not to travel to the airport

Lengthy delays could cost families more than £500

The latest advice from Airport Parking & Hotels (APH) is to not travel to the airport until directed. Despite information provided by airlines, holidaymakers are still arriving at the airport car parks across the country and face a long drive back home.

In a recent poll of 2,000 Brits about missed flights by the leading airport provider APH, families opting to head to the airport can expect to spend an additional £500 waiting for their flight, an amount not necessarily covered by your travel insurance.

APH said: "Presently flights are not due to depart until 1am on 17 April and further delays are expected. Our advice is to not travel to the airport and stay at home unless directed to travel by your airline.”

The research discovered that of those expected to remain at the airport, 25% will head straight to the nearest restaurant proving that a mixture of fast food and boredom are a temptation hard to resist.

When comparing men and women it seems guys know exactly how to quell the stress of missing a flight, with one in four buying alcohol and luxury gadgets during delays. Although hygiene is a lost cause with just 1% of men prioritising a change of clothing as an essential buy!

The average family of four could face a bill of over £500 whilst they are in limbo at the airport.

The breakdown of these costs are:

Food for the family

£60
Overnight accommodation£100
Magazines, newspapers & books£15
Electronic gadgets£100
Alcoholic drinks£10
Replacement bus/train tickets£60
Change of clothes£160

APH added, "We recommend customers check the website of their travel provider and investigate alternative methods of travel during the next 24-hours. APH will remain open and staff are on hand to help customers expecting to fly.”
