Web Filtering and Anti-Malware Threat Management Providers Join Forces
27th April 2010 - Internet security specialist SmoothWall, today announced a partnership with Sunbelt Software, a leading provider of anti-virus, anti-spyware, email security and malware analysis solutions.
As partners, SmoothWall and Sunbelt Software will deliver solutions that combine their respective best of breed web filtering and enterprise security solutions. SmoothWall’s first step as part of the joint venture is to integrate Sunbelt Software’s award-winning VIPRE® anti-malware solution and ThreatTrack™ data feeds into its Guardian web filter. Although SmoothWall’s web content filtering solutions already protect users against web-borne viruses and malware, the integration of VIPRE will enable it to offer dramatically improved, third-generation web security protection.
“After studying the market, Sunbelt Software was a clear choice. The integration of VIPRE, as an exciting, market-leading solution will significantly boost malware and virus protection for our customers,” said SmoothWall managing director George Lungley.
”We will be able to offer users fast, powerful and intelligent web and threat management in one unified solution. In tests, VIPRE’s heuristic threat detection methods performed exceptionally well and the anti-malware engine itself is refreshingly light on system resource usage,” Lungley added.
SunbeltLabs™, the malware research and analysis division of Sunbelt Software, processes tens of thousands of malware samples a day, leveraging ThreatTrack data feeds alongside Sunbelt Software’s CWSandbox™ - the leading automated malware behavior analysis tool - and the ThreatNet™ user community. Zero-day threat updates are pushed to customers using Sunbelt Software’s SteadyStream™ update technology to ensure robust anti-virus detection and protection.
VIPRE won the 2009 Windows IT Pro Magazine Gold Community Choice Award and received a VB100 award on its debut in tests by Virus Bulletin, the world's premier anti-virus lab. It has also been confirmed in independent tests* to "consume up to 45% less memory, and offer up to 3.6x scanning speed compared to Symantec and McAfee."
VIPRE has been rigorously tested by Microsoft and has been certified compatible with Windows 7. It has also been certified by ICSA Labs and West Coast Labs. VIPRE demonstrated a particularly outstanding performance in Virus Bulletin’s April 2010 RAP (Reactive and Proactive) tests, which separately analyze the heuristic and generic detection capabilities of security software, proving the accuracy of its behavior-based approach.
“We are delighted to be working with SmoothWall, a vendor that shares our intelligent and resource-efficient approach to network protection. VIPRE is a great fit for SmoothWall’s suite of internet security and web content filtering solutions, and we are in no doubt that our combined technologies will significantly raise the bar on web security solutions worldwide,” said Chad Loeven, vice president and general manager for SunbeltLabs.
SmoothWall’s integration of VIPRE is scheduled for launch next month. For more information visit www.smoothwall.net
