AIRCOM licences ASSET to Oxford Brookes University

Leatherhead, 19 January, 2012: Oxford Brookes University has licenced ASSET 7.0 from AIRCOM International, the leading independent network planning and optimisation solutions provider. The university will use the market leading network planning tool to educate students taking its specialist telecommunications postgraduate degree courses.

ASSET helps mobile operators around the world design, plan and optimise multi-technology radio networks. Its advanced network design capabilities automate time consuming tasks such as site configuration, traffic planning, network analysis, network dimensioning and parameter planning.

By using ASSET, students leaving Oxford Brookes University with an MSc in Mobile and High Speed Telecommunication Networks will have up-to-date knowledge and hands-on experience of how optimal radio frequency (RF) planning is achieved – including planning for the capacity, speed and efficiency improvements that will be required for LTE networks.

Oxford Brookes is one of the UK’s leading modern universities and offers a range of courses in telecommunications, giving students an in-depth knowledge of modern high-speed telecommunication systems.

“It is vital our students understand the impact that effective network planning has on network performance and profitability, especially with the imminent arrival of LTE,” says Dr Nigel Crook, Head of the Department of Computing and Communication Technologies, Oxford Brookes University. “By using ASSET, our aspiring engineers will learn innovative techniques to effectively manage the increasing levels of voice and data traffic operators are experiencing.”

“We’re delighted to be able to provide ASSET to Oxford Brookes University,” says Alwyn Welch, CEO, AIRCOM International. “Integrating the importance of network planning into degree courses highlights the significant role products like ASSET will play in delivering profitable networks today and in the future.”

LTE Webinar
Steve Bowker, CTO at AIRCOM International, will be presenting a webinar entitled ‘Addressing the challenges the migration to LTE’ on Wednesday 1st February 2012 at 11am UK GMT.

Operators around the world are facing tremendous challenges on data growth, operational efficiency and customer experience. LTE addresses these pain points in different ways – however getting the most out of your LTE network, meeting subscriber demands and developing new revenue growth plans are key drivers in the uptake of LTE as a technology. There has never been a more critical time to look at network evolution and get the most of your current assets while preparing a transition plan to LTE. AIRCOM International presents the lessons learned so far in first LTE roll outs, key steps to guarantee a cost effective and smooth plan to LTE, and how LTE will reshape the way networks operate.

Key points to be addressed during this webinar include:

  • Lessons learned from first LTE deployments

  • How to ensure a successful migration to LTE for operators, network strategy, spectrum management and support systems

  • LTE Advanced and the future of mobile broadband, getting the foundations now
