Hall of Shame: Worst Christmas Gifts for Women

Survey reveals the top 10 worst gifts women have received from their partners

Cyber Monday 2 December 2013: Today, the busiest online shopping day of the year, AskHerFriends.com has revealed the Top 10 worst gifts women have received from a partner during the festive season following a survey of nearly 1700 women across the UK. The items ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous, with some of the presents including ill-chosen underwear, compost and cement mixers - but the most and bizarre gifts for women were a beard trimmer and a single cabbage!

The Top 10 Worst Christmas Gifts

1. A cabbage
2. A beard trimmer
3. A Poo-shaped key ring
4. A cement mixer
5. A bag of compost
6. Windscreen wipers
7. A sack of potatoes
8. A packet of salt
9. A thong – picked by partner’s mother
10. Rubber gloves

The nationwide survey showed that nearly half of UK women (49.9%) will be disappointed during the holidays because their partner will fail to buy them the perfect gift. But gift givers should tread carefully as nearly 1 in 2 women (42%) have ditched the partners who gave them the awful gifts in the past. Sadly, a quarter of women admitted their partners had never even bought them a gift.

Nearly 1 in 5 married women (16.9%) confided that their husbands really did not know them when it came to buying gifts – one woman even disclosed that her husband accidently gave her the gift he intended to give his mistress! 5% of married women also revealed that they pretended to like the gifts their husband gave them.

AskHerFriends.com was set up by Ben Blomerley who once bought a worm farm for a girlfriend – unsurprisingly, they are no longer together! After “worm-gate” Ben decided that there had to be a better way of choosing gifts for women. This was the inspiration behind creating AskHerFriends.com, which brings together the best of British crowd sourced ideas, retail technology and social networking to help men select the perfect gift for her.

“Buying gifts can be a minefield - but we were truly shocked at some of the items the ladies we surveyed had received,” said Ben Blomerley, Founder of AskHerFriends.com. “There’s nothing wrong with picking an unusual but thoughtful gift, unfortunately these partners completely forgot the thoughtful part! AskHerFriends.com aims to help provide inspiration and guidance for guys struggling for gift ideas, without a cabbage or pair of musical pants in sight!”
