BP, one of the world’s largest energy companies, aims to reduce the costs of IT by consolidating hardware and software procurement via a newly-established Global Reseller Programme. The five-year programme is part of BP’s overall supplier consolidation and simplification agenda, and is aligned with BP’s strategic goals of maintaining operational excellence and sustainable cost reduction.
Delivered through an alliance of two major regional providers – Computacenter in the UK and CompuCom Systems in the US – this will enable BP to achieve a greater consistency around the world and make buying IT products simpler.
Dana Deasy, Global Chief Information Officer at BP, commented: “By consolidating and simplifying our IT supply chain, we will reduce our IT supplier base by at least 540 vendors, and significantly remove cost while driving complexity from our operations”.
The service, which starts on 1st February 2010 covers the sourcing of IT hardware in the UK and US and global software procurement.
Mike Norris, CEO of Computacenter, commented: “A consolidated approach to IT procurement through the reseller channel will enable BP to aggregate its spend with vendors leading to volume discounts; standardise its product portfolio and simplify the way IT buying is performed. The alliance with CompuCom will be key to meeting BP’s IT needs across the US.”
Jim Dixon, CEO of CompuCom, commented: “The combined expertise of CompuCom and Computacenter will enable BP to streamline its IT supply chain in order to make IT buying simple across the Corporation while still addressing the regional needs of its business units and 90,000-plus employees.”
