Gartner Dataquest report confirms ZTE's growing world role
ZTE Corporation, China's largest telecommunications manufacturer, has joined companies such as Siemens, Alcatel and NEC as a leading worldwide supplier of DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) equipment.
According to a new report from highly respected Gartner Dataquest, shipments of DSLAM increased more than eight per cent in the third quarter of 2004 – from 13.3 million ports to 14.4 million – and DSLAM port revenue increased 2.3 percent in the third quarter of 2004 to $895.3 million from $875 million in the second quarter of 2004.
ZTE's position confirms its growing significance in the world market. To date, ZTE has deployed over 10 million DSL products in over 30 countries and regions around the world. Last year, ZTE supplied a DSL network to serve the Olympic Games, which performed throughout the Games with no problems or downtime. Earlier this month, ZTE announced that it is to become a global supplier of ADSL equipment to France Telecom.
Committing over 10% of its revenue to R&D every year, ZTE is developing the very latest DSL technologies, including ADSL2/2+ and VDSL/VDSL2. In addition, ZTE offers new technologies such as SNOOPING ++, on-line usage monitoring software and M+1 terminal protection to provide operators with next-generation broadband products.
"Our commitment to world-class technology and providing it to customers globally - backed by first class sales support - is bringing its rewards to ZTE right across the areas we are working in and we are absolutely delighted to be acknowledged in this new report," said Chen Jie, VP of ZTE.
"DSLAM is a key component in bringing the benefits of digital technology to businesses and homes and it is gratifying to know that a company like ZTE - which barely existed 20 years ago - is now such a key player in the market.”
The news of ZTE's DSLAM market position comes as the company is embarking on its first technology roadshow in Europe. The tour began last week in Turkey, where more than 300 guests came to see a range of ZTE technologies. Visitors included Mr. Abdullatif Sener, Vice Prime Minister of Turkey, and senior executives from the Turkish Transportation Ministry, the Turkish Telecom Authority, Turk Telekom, Turk Cell, Telsim and Avea. The roadshow will visit Greece, Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, France, Spain and Portugal between March and July of this year.
