ANGLE toasts upcoming Provexis health drink launch - Signals growing success for technology portfolio

Guildford, UK, 25 August 2005: The growing success of AIM-listed ANGLE’s technology and biotechnology portfolio was highlighted this week when nutraceutical specialist Provexis, one of its key long-term investments, confirmed a January 2006 launch for its radical new SircoTM health drink.

Supported by a £2.5m marketing budget, SircoTM will be available through major UK supermarkets and other high street retailers. A fruit juice, it contains a patented bioactive tomato extract (FruitflowTM) which is proven in human trials to inhibit blood platelet aggregation and to reduce, accordingly, both the risk of thrombosis (the primary cause of heart attacks) and of strokes.

SircoTM is the result of a five year development by Provexis plc.  Founded in 2000 by ANGLE to commercialise IP originated by the Rowett Institute, Europe’s leading nutrition research centre, Provexis itself floated on AIM in June 2005.

Prior to flotation, Provexis raised £2.26m from ANGLE and other venture capitalists.  ANGLE currently retains a 32% stake.

Commenting ANGLE’s UK chief executive, Stephen Bates said that “Provexis provides a benchmark example of ANGLE’s integrated approach to delivering the necessary technical, financial and, crucially, management skillsets to the successful nurturing and developing of new businesses”.

ANGLE’s current portfolio also includes six other major technology and biotechnology ventures:  Acolyte Biomedica, Contrasoft, Customiser, Geomerics, NeuroTargets and Novocellus.  An earlier portfolio member, Exago was successfully sold to Corpora in 2004.
