PNY Launches its SD High Capacity 4GB Class 4 Card

Mérignac (France) – December 2006 – PNY Technologies is pleased to announce the launch of their 4GB SD™ High Capacity card (SDHC).  The number of Secure Digital (SD) host devices compliant with SD High Capacity technology has risen dramatically in the last couple of months. As a result, consumers are demanding multimedia devices with external, high performance storage capabilities and PNY has the ideal solution.

Based on the Secure Digital association’s Specification version 2.00, this new PNY SD card will enable a user to select the memory card according to their needs. PNY’s card can cope with a range of storage-intense applications including high-resolution digital images, HD video recording and even playback.

The SDHC card is compliant with the SD speed class rating specification created by the SD association which introduced a new speed classification according to the application:

Class 2 :    >=2MB/s  TV recording / DVD/ standard DC
Class 4 :    >=4MB/s  Mpeg2 (HDTV)/ DC with continuous shooting opti
Class 6   :  >=6MB/s  Reflex DC and professional DC – on continuous shooting

From the three categories, PNY felt the SDHC class 4 card was the best solution for the UK retail market. Laure Lapègue, European Category Manager for Flash cards commented, “Class 4 was the most flexible card for PNY’s UK retail and etail market. This class offers high enough performance to optimize a 6 Mpixel Digital camera or cope with the latest camcorder functionalities, giving the customer maximum flexibility from a 4 GB card”

Offering a huge storage capacity , the SDHC device can save more than 1000 pictures in high resolution and around 1 hour and 30 minutes of Video MPEG2 DVD 4MB/s.
Recommended retail price incl. vat PNY SD HC 4GB £41.00

SDHC Host devices can use SD (up to 2GB) and SDHC (4GB and more) Memory Cards.
SD Host devices can use only SD Memory Card (up to 2GB). Therefore SDHC cards are never compatible with SD Host products
