Renewable energy specialist Renewables Guide reports air source heat pumps gaining popularity for those homes not connected to the national grid.

Renewables Guide is a leading UK resource for up to date green and renewable energy matters and where businesses and consumers can also search and find local accredited renewable energy technology installers.

With more and more focus being placed on how we need to be kinder to our planet and its precious resources; the more new renewable technologies are becoming available. This is great news for those living remotely.

One such technology is air source heat pumps, which are widely used in many EU countries, and as reported by Renewables Guide are growing in popularity here in the UK too.

Homes situated in rural or isolated locations may not have the luxury of electricity and gas, so alternative solutions to generate electricity, heat and hot water need to be sourced.

The great news for those who do live off grid is that the number of alternative renewable energy options is constantly growing thanks to the ground breaking technological developments in the renewable energy sector, and air source heat pumps are especially proving to be a technology more and more people are choosing to install.

Renewables Guide’s Founder David Holmes commented, “Ground source heat pumps and air source heat pumps are a fantastic alternative for those living off grid and are ideal for replacing electric, coal and LPG heating systems, as not only will these types of heat pumps be cheaper to use long term, it also means home owners will reduce their CO2 emissions which is incredibly important. Plus there’s also opportunities to earn money from the heat produced when using a renewable technology from the Government's Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme which is due to be launched in the summer of 2013”.

Home owners who are interested in installing a renewable technology should also take a look at Government’s current Renewable Heat Premium Payment (RHPP) scheme, which gives one off contributions towards the installation costs of qualifying heat pumps as well as biomass boilers. The amounts available vary depending on the technology. Home owners have to apply to receive the vouchers which are currently £850 for installing an air source heat pump with £1,250 if installing a ground source heat pump.
