Move will support UK Higher Education’s leading global position
London. 14, March, 2017: Cogeco Peer 1, a globally recognised specialist provider of colocation, network connectivity, managed hosting, cloud and managed services, today announced its partnership with Jisc. Jisc is the UK higher, further education and skills sectors’ not-for-profit organisation for digital services and solutions.
Jisc is responsible for the Janet Network, a high-speed network for the UK research and education community that provides extremely reliable and fast data transfer to support innovation, research and learning, as well as providing access to other Jisc services. Cogeco Peer 1’s addition to the Janet network will provide a direct connection to flexible, high-performance, bespoke, managed IT infrastructure solutions including colocation, hosting and cloud. Additional international connectivity through Cogeco Peer 1’s ultra-low latency network will also allow institutions to reach overseas student communities, connect with international campuses and collaborate with peers globally.
Susan Bowen, Vice President and General Manager, EMEA at Cogeco Peer 1 said: “Cogeco Peer 1 has earned the trust of many public sector and third-estate clients, including OFSTED and ResearchGate, building a breadth of experience that allows our dedicated specialists to meet the unique IT requirements of the UK’s universities. Cogeco Peer 1 and Jisc’s role is to help ensure that UK universities and higher education institutes remain at the forefront of global education, by providing the infrastructure to underpin what they do.”
Bowen added: “We look forward to being part of Jisc’s on-going endeavours to maintain the country’s position as the global leader in higher education, and provide a continued stream of expertise to sustain the UK’s economy far into the future.”
Tim Marshall OBE, Executive Director, membership and Sales, Jisc, said; “As part of Jisc, the Janet Network serves over 18 million users across the UK and provides research and higher education institutions with a highly reliable and secure, world-class network, enabling national and international communication and collaboration – one of the key prerequisites to groundbreaking academic work.”
Marshall added: “The Janet Network has always given UK Universities access to high performance connectivity, but now, thanks to the addition of directly connected commercial G-Cloud partners, we are enabling our customers and members to take advantage of the latest cloud based technology portfolios. This will enable access to cloud solutions designed specifically to meet the demands of higher education, research establishments and the digital environments they now operate in.”
Universities and research establishments can now use their existing high speed Janet network to connect directly to Cogeco Peer 1 and a suite of infrastructure options from colocation, to hosting, to cloud. This choice and flexibility, combined with the expertise of Cogeco Peer 1’s teams will allow the UK’s higher education and research facilities to put in place bespoke suites of technology infrastructure that meet the demands they face today, and make the right choices to future-proof their IT architecture for tomorrow too.
