Sopra Steria expands Scotland business with a new contract with Edrington
Glasgow, 7 June 2016 – Sopra Steria, a European leader in digital transformation, has today announced a new partnership with Edrington, the Scotland-based international drinks company, to upgrade its production systems with the development of the Aspire Bulk Stock Management System. The contract will begin with the renewal of all stock management systems and processes. It will continue as a close partnership as Sopra Steria supports the system on an ongoing basis.
The solution will support key business processes such as sampling, blending and technical reporting. Sopra Steria is working side-by-side with Edrington to tailor the solution, ensuring that it is user-driven in order to increase productivity and efficiency. A key part of the solution involves alignment and reporting to HM Revenues and Customs, something which Sopra Steria and Edrington have worked closely on to make as efficient and standardised as possible.
Edrington is replacing its AS400 based application and it was Sopra Steria’s local presence, capabilities and knowledge that won the contract. The competitive tendering process ended in a week-long discovery period, where Sopra Steria worked with Edrington to demonstrate that it was the best partner to help modernise the system in a way that was completely tailored and would be supported start to finish by a hands-on local team.
Alison McLaughlin, Regional Director for Scotland and Northern Ireland, Sopra Steria, comments: “Building on Sopra Steria’s substantial existing business in the Scottish region, we are very pleased to enter this new partnership with Edrington, which is one of Scotland’s leading independent companies. Our presence in Scotland is strong, and the addition of Edrington to our key strategic customers underlines our commitment to expansion and growth here.”
The Glasgow based Sopra Steria team is working closely with Edrington to build the system, which will be implemented using modern development approaches such as Java and Open Source but based on Sopra Steria’s proven reference architecture. Malcolm Allan, Senior Account Manager, Sopra Steria, comments: “The modernisation of this system plays a significant role in the success of Edrington’s business and Sopra Steria is delighted to be working with them to achieve this. It’s because of Sopra Steria’s expertise in delivering complex, transformational business processes and bespoke systems that the Edrington team can be confident we will deliver a reliable and modern solution.”
Once the Aspire Bulk Management System is in place, both teams will continue looking at how to innovate and improve business processes, and create efficiencies wherever possible. Alastair Norrie, Business Technology Programme Manager, Edrington, commented: “Edrington is confident that the Aspire system can deliver real long-term value to our business, allowing us to take advantage of new techniques and innovative technologies as they emerge. Sopra Steria’s local capability was a key element in our decision to enter this partnership and we look forward to working closely with them to deliver a system that will support the long-term success of our leading premium brands.”
Edrington makes some of the world’s best-loved premium spirit brands, including The Macallan and Highland Park single malt Scotch whiskies, The Famous Grouse and Cutty Sark blended Scotch whiskies and Brugal, the leading golden rum in the Caribbean. The portfolio is complemented by Snow Leopard vodka.
Founded in 1861, Edrington today is a successful international premium spirit business with a long-term outlook. The company's unique business model funds its owner, The Robertson Trust, which is Scotland's largest independent grant-making trust. The Trust was established in 1961 as a way to continue and extend the family's support for good causes in perpetuity. Last year The Robertson Trust donated £18.2 million to charities of all sizes across Scotland.
