Gloucestershire Architectural Firms Announce Merger

Heath Avery Architects and Astam merge to form Integrated Architecture – Heath Avery Astam, an architecturally-led, multi-disciplinary design practice

New combined company provides customers with every architectural discipline in-house, eliminating the additional cost, risk and inconvenience of engaging with multiple suppliers

Integrated Architecture adheres to BiM Level II compliance in order to deliver industry best practice for all clients on all projects

Cheltenham & Gloucester, Tuesday 19th April 2016: Cheltenham-based Heath Avery Architects, and the Gloucester-based multi-disciplinary professional practice Astam, have today announced the successful merger of both companies to form Integrated Architecture. The new combined company draws on the complementary skillsets and professional qualifications of both companies in order to provide all aspects of the architectural design and engineering services under one roof.

Integrated Architecture was specifically conceived to provide customers with an Architecturally led approach to fully collaborative multi-discipline design and engineering, based on the Government led industry standards and practices set out in the UK Governments BiM mandate (Building Information Modelling). The Government BiM mandate came in to force in April 2016 and stipulates that all public sector construction projects should be procured, designed and delivered using collaborative 3D BiM (with all project and asset information, documentation and data being electronic) on its projects by 2016.

BiM is central to the Government’s Construction Strategy to “reduce the capital cost and the carbon burden from the construction and operation of the built environment by 20%.” Central to this strategy is the adoption of Building Information Modelling (BiM) technologies. Integrated Architecture are committed to using BiM technology and management across all projects irrespective of their size or sector, to deliver better design, better coordination and more comprehensive asset information for all customers to drive the industry forward.

“Integrated Architecture is the first practice in the region to provide every aspect of a BiM Level II project entirely in-house. This is a key differentiator for us. BiM compliance is good for our clients because it means lower costs, fewer mistakes and greater accountability because we are involved at every stage of the project,” comments Stephen Vaughan, previously Director at Heath Avery Architects.

Roger Boucher, previously Managing Director of Astam, explains the decision behind the merger, “This merger plays to the individual strengths of both companies. Heath Avery Architects is known for its cutting edge design and strong focus on environmental sustainability, while Astam has a reputation for its raft of engineering skills and competencies. The two companies have been working together for a number of years, and with such a successful working relationship and a complementary skillset we felt the two companies had more to offer together than apart. We are looking forward to the many projects we will complete together as one company in the future.”

The new combined company employs 19 staff, including 5 architects, 7 technicians and 4 engineers.

Integrated Architecture can deliver all design aspects of a construction project in-house, from the initial architectural conception and design to structural engineering (SE), Quantity Surveying (QS), Mechanical, Engineering & Public Health (MEP) and Health and Safety (PD).
