ASHTEAD, UK & WOBURN, MA – 30 May 2018 – BridgeHead Software today announced it has been named a ‘Leader’ for its HealthStore™ solution in the recent IDC MarketScape: Worldwide AICA and VNA for Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC) 2018 Vendors Assessment (IDC #EMEA43665518).
Published in March 2018, and authored by healthcare industry analysts Silvia Piai and Mutaz Shegewi, the IDC MarketScape explores the changing landscape of healthcare and why application independent clinical archive (AICA) solutions and, in part their predecessor, the vendor neutral archive (VNA), are pivotal to a provider’s underlying patient information strategy. IDC then assessed the vendors in the space, concluding BridgeHead Software was one of the four vendors to receive the Leader recognition (in the top right-hand side of the quadrant).
Why IDC believes AICA / VNA Solutions are important for value-based healthcare?
In the MarketScape, IDC examines the changes in healthcare provision and reimbursement as a result of the introduction of value-based healthcare (VBHC). To meet market demands, IDC states that providers will, among other things, need to closely monitor efficiency of the workforce, processes, and assets in order to assess their performance in terms of clinical outcomes, patient experience, and economic viability. In order to achieve this, IDC suggests that healthcare organizations will need to “revise their patient information management strategy and focus their IT investments on achieving superior data availability, while providing for security and privacy protection and ensuring efficiency of the underlying infrastructure”. IDC considers AICA and, to a point VNA solutions, an essential part of the technology layer. This is especially the case given healthcare providers are no longer solely concerned with medical image management and the growth of unstructured content from different departments, patients, and care delivery partners. Today, healthcare organizations expect sustainable, end-to-end solutions that “offer a combination of traditional ‘passive’ archives and real-time access capabilities to support new patient information sharing, viewing, workflow, and analytics needs”.
Why BridgeHead was recognized as a leader
According to the IDC MarketScape: “BridgeHead's strength lies in its expertise in healthcare and its commitment to vendor neutrality and healthcare data standards, as well as its customer relationship strategy.” Further it states, “Thanks to its patient-centric focus on data availability and security, BridgeHead is well positioned to support healthcare organizations in addressing immediate priorities as data privacy compliance (for example, the GDPR in Europe), as well as long-term information needs for integrated and value-based healthcare.”
IDC utilizes a rigorous process to define its criteria for selection, weightings, and vendor scores utilizing independent research measured through structured discussions, surveys, and interviews with market leaders, participants and end users. Vendors are then characterized as Participants, Contenders, Major Players or Leaders in the market.
“Healthcare organizations looking to support a digital transformation strategy with the objectives of reducing regulatory risk, enabling continuity of care, and reducing the impact of legacy systems should take in consideration BridgeHead's HealthStore value proposition,” commented Silvia Piai EMEA Senior Research Manager, IDC Health Insights.
Jim Beagle, President and CEO at BridgeHead Software, was elated at the news. “We’re honored that IDC has, once again, recognized the value of HealthStore™ and clarified BridgeHead’s position in the application independent clinical archive (AICA) market. Increasingly, we’re seeing HealthStore starting to become more prominent in a hospital, becoming a pivotal integration for the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Even the most advanced EMR solution doesn’t house all of a patient’s information. Because HealthStore can store, protect and share any documents, from blood results, clinical reports and patient correspondence through to the large array of medical image types, it truly augments the EMR – integrated to provide referenceable and historic patient information, in context, to users. This streamlines workflow for front-line clinicians, but also other stakeholders such as Health Information Managers (HIM) and legal departments. But, ultimately, it’s all about driving efficiencies in providing valuable patient information, at the point of care, to improve outcomes and the patient experience.”
