Kybotech a manufacturer and online retailer of garden, home and leisure products has raised more than £3,500 in one week for disaster relief in the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest storms ever recorded, left a trail of destruction.

Collections were made on Kybotech’s ecommerce sites where they donated £2 for every product they sold. Donations were also made by the staff of Kybotech, who raised more than £200 internally. Kybotech director William Walton said “It is great to see the motivation and effort put in by my team to raise donations and we give thanks to our customers for helping to support the fundraising efforts.”

Much of the money will go towards providing Shelter Boxes for hundreds of thousands of families left homeless by Typhoon Haiyan. Each Shelter Box contains a disaster relief tent, blankets, ground sheets, water storage and purification equipment, cooking utensils, solar lamps, tool kit, a children’s activity pack and other items.

So far, more than £39million has been raised by the Disasters Emergency Committee. Prime Minister David Cameron said the UK will commit an extra £30million in aid, taking the Government contribution to £50million. The country's National Disaster Agency says that 5,209 people are now known to have lost their lives, with many more still missing.

Walton added: “Thousands of people have lost their homes and loved ones. We wanted to help raise funds for the tragic victims of the typhoon which has had a devastating impact. It’s only right that we should try and help in any way we can.”

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) said the “incredible response” from the British public was helping to fund crucial aid in some of the worst hit parts of the islands.
