LONDON – Northridge today marks an exceptionally strong first six months with a raft of lateral hires and new client wins. It has quickly established itself as the firm the sports industry turns to when the stakes are highest, acting on the most high profile matters in sport including serving as Solicitors and Secretariat to the Independent Review of Integrity in Tennis released last week.

Founding partner Ian Lynam said: "We have been delighted by how well our new offering has resonated with the market. Whilst the loyalty of our longstanding clients provided a strong starting position, we have been particularly pleased by the number of new clients turning to us with their most business critical work. Our key challenge has been growing quickly enough to service the demand whilst maintaining the quality which underpins our practice. In this regard, we have been very lucky to be able to quickly attract some exceptional new team members.”

Since its launch in October 2017, the list of new clients won by Northridge includes Puma, Confederation of African Football (CAF), Rugby Football League (RFL), France Rugby (FFR), Neymar, Kevin de Bruyne, Betway, AEG Worldwide and Dragoneer Investment Group.

The firm has expanded to meet its growing workload, hiring six new lawyers from associate level upwards from firms such as Slaughter and May, Ashurst, Norton Rose, Glibert + Tobin and Harbottle & Lewis. This brings the team to 22 fee earners (plus support staff), making it the largest sports law practice in the United Kingdom.

Northridge focuses on the most sensitive and complex matters in sport. It offers a unique combination of scale and expertise. The team comprises four partners and 18 other fee earners, giving the depth required to staff the largest and most demanding projects. The firm provides a broad range of services from disputes and regulatory to commercial and corporate. It advises on the most complex inquiries and investigations, “bet the company” acquisitions, the structuring of new formats and competitions, the highest value sponsorship deals and the most critical issues for superstar athletes.

The firm launched with an impressive client list including The Football Association, British Horseracing Authority, leading Premier League football clubs, Premiership Rugby, Welsh Rugby Union, Red and White Holdings, STATSports, IMG and high profile sports stars such as Dele Alli, Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas, Raheem Sterling and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

NOTES TO EDITORS
Based in London, Northridge launched in October 2017 with founding partners Jonathan Ellis, Ian Lynam, Jon Walters and James Eighteen. Ellis and Lynam had headed up the Sports Group at Charles Russell Speechlys for the last five years, leading the team’s promotion to tier 1 in both Chambers and Legal 500. The firm provides a broad range of services from disputes and regulatory to commercial and corporate. It advises on the most complex inquiries and investigations, “bet the company” acquisitions, the structuring of new formats and competitions, the highest value sponsorship deals and the most critical issues for superstar athletes. Beyond sport, the Northridge team is recognised by the directories for general commercial advice and in media and entertainment for “particular expertise in advertising and marketing matters”. Jon Walters has a particularly broad practice, with Legal 500 recommending him as a leading lawyer in three separate categories (commercial contracts, TMT and sport). An enviable client base of businesses in the digital, gambling and leisure sectors and beyond moved with them alongside the core sports practice.
