European leading provider of branch office and SME routers completes purchase to enhance cloud services strategy and address WAN optimisation opportunities
February 3rd 2011, Paris: OneAccess, the second largest provider in multi-service access routers for branch offices, today announced it has completed the acquisition of UDcast, a leading provider of WAN optimisation technology. The acquisition extends the capability of OneAccess to enable cloud services on behalf of fixed, mobile, and satellite operators. OneAccess plans to deliver powerful visibility, control, application acceleration and compression capabilities both as part of new product development, and as firmware upgrades for the hundreds of thousands of multi-service access routers already deployed by leading service providers worldwide.

“Working closely with the largest operators in Europe, we have anticipated how much WAN optimisation will become a must-have capability for cloud service deployments. Quality of Experience (QoE) is a critical and overdue service that all telcos will provide in the near future,” commented Bertrand Meis, CEO of OneAccess. “Today, the branch office router is an incredibly strategic asset for service providers, who are insistent upon deploying integrated gateway devices with a great deal of application intelligence as well as exceptional reliability. OneAccess is the only vendor capable of living up to those expectations, and in the significant volumes demanded.”
While the economic outlook has seen innovation stall and product roadmaps contract, OneAccess has sustained above-average, profitable growth and delivered a series of landmark technology breakthroughs. At Broadband World Forum Europe the company unveiled a new family of multi-service access router, the ONE1000 series of Cloud Services Gateways, which boast a dedicated, cloud-optimised App Processor. The acquisition of UDcast will integrate proven intellectual property into all ONE Series multi-service access routers, and has particular resonance for the ONE1000.
“This is a key component in our strategy to build the next generation of standard managed business services,” added Meis. “Solutions available on the market today require a router and an accelerator appliance, compromising both cost and performance. In 2011, OneAccess will launch a fully integrated solution in a single, unified device, focused on standard managed cloud computing networks. For the first time, telcos will have the right product to massively rollout assured SaaS services.”
The remaining UDcast business will be operated as a new sales division within OneAccess, and continue to service the growing international opportunity for WAN optimisation solutions on satellite-based services. UDcast’s heritage in satellite and mobile markets will also assist OneAccess in targeting other opportunities for WAN optimisation within operator networks, such as for accelerated mobile backhaul capability.
