Unique operational efficiency features enable a scalable, high assurance PKI for high volume global certificate authority
Plantation, Fl – June 4, 2013 – Thales, leader in information systems and communications security, announces that QuoVadis, a leading global certification authority (CA), has deployed Thales nShield hardware security modules (HSMs) together with Thales Time Stamp Server to secure the operation of its high volume commercial CA and deliver the assurance and reliability of service required by both clients and auditors.
QuoVadis digital certificates and digital signature services are used to support high value applications that are subject to stringent security requirements and audit regimes. The company is accredited as a Qualified Trust Service Provider (TSP) in multiple European countries and issues eIDs under the Swiss SuisseID and Dutch PKI Overheid programs.
Thales nShield HSMs together with the Thales Security World key management architecture allow organizations to achieve a high assurance level while managing cryptographic keys efficiently and effectively in environments such as Public Key Infrastructures (PKIs). Thales Time Stamp Server keeps accurate time and creates secure time stamps for PKI-enabled applications, electronic records and code signing – transforming electronic records into strong evidence.
QuoVadis employed the services of Thales Advanced Solutions Group (ASG), a professional services team that specializes in design and deployment of cryptographic technologies in a wide range of business environments. ASG designed and implemented the secure key management architecture and time stamping operations, optimized for a high assurance, high availability, networked environment which is critical to the success of the QuoVadis business.
Barry Kilborn, head of risk management at QuoVadis says:
“Our business is focused on creating trusted internet identities and digital signature solutions on valuable transactions. Our customers need our solutions to deliver high assurance and absolute trust and Thales HSMs are fundamental to that trust. Hardware, however, is only part of the story. One of our top priorities was to find a provider who not only had in-depth knowledge of the technology but also of the businesses in which the technology operates and Thales delivers with both the dependable technology and responsive services.”
Cindy Provin, president Thales e-Security Inc. says:
“The CA business is all about trust and that trust is based on the integrity of a CA’s operations. When you add an nShield HSM to your PKI you are deploying a high assurance, independently certified, tamper-resistant device that is used to secure some of the most sensitive keys and business process within an organization. Thales is particularly proud to provide the level of assurance and reliability required by QuoVadis that enables them to deliver the assurance and reliability their business demands.”
