Self-optimizing network pioneer Reverb Networks has been awarded a key coverage and capacity optimization patent, crucial to the SON technology space
Sterling, Virginia, 16 September 2015

Reverb Networks, a pioneer in the self-optimizing network market, has been awarded a crucial SON patent for a technology known as coverage and capacity optimization (CCO).
CCO is a cornerstone technology in the SON technical palette, providing one of the most fundamental optimization capabilities of any self-optimizing network. The new patent grant covers a fundamental SON function for capacity and coverage optimization - a critical SON capability, without which most SON solutions would be inoperable.
The new Reverb Networks CCO patent covers several basic features inherent in every SON system for adjustment of coverage to adapt to changing traffic patterns and organization of radio resources to provide higher capacity.
Reverb’s InteliSON CCO solution also provides several unique features:-
- Interference management - InteliSON CCO continuously updates the set of cells to be used in the coverage mitigation of a given area for achieving the best tradeoff between coverage and interference
- Seamless optimization mode transfer - for each detected cells and the status of other cells in the same sector, InteliSON CCO selects the best optimization mode (Tx-power or antenna tilt) seamlessly changing the optimization mode anytime during the optimization
- Coordination with other SON features – Reverb InteliSON CCO supports conflict resolution with other SON features for covering the scenarios where CCO and other InteliSON modules are running in the same area (cell/sector/site/cluster)
“Reverb’s intelligent CCO algorithm always selects the best network configuration to mitigate coverage holes, and is able to seamlessly change between transmit power and antenna tilt - a unique InteliSON CCO feature,” said Dr. Nicolas Cotanis, CTO and one of patent’s authors. “Taking into account that currently 80% of network traffic is indoor, InteliSON CCO only uses network counters, KPIs and UE events to better reflect actual customer experience.”
“This patent is the result of the Reverb’s leading research effort in developing advanced, real-time SON algorithms, the true differentiating factor in today’s evolving SON space,” said Zoran Kehler, CEO Reverb Networks. “With some of the key patents in SON now being assigned to Reverb Networks, it's clear that we are the leading independent solution. We’ve been at the forefront of self-optimizing network technology for several years, and these patent grants are testament to our forward thinking and this patent helps reinforce that position.”
