Thoughtonomy confirmed as Advanced Corporate Member of IEEE, defining industry standard for Intelligent Automation

August 2017 Thoughtonomy can today confirm their support for the IEEE standard P2755, defining Terms and Concepts in Intelligent Process Automation, having been confirmed as an Advanced Corporate Member.

Together with a peer group of technology vendors including Blue Prism, UIpath and Automation Anywhere, Thoughtonomy will work with IEEE on the ongoing development of industry standard classification of terms and concepts in the developing intelligent process automation marketplace.

IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for humanity, and the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA), earlier announced the approval of the IEEE P2755™—Guide to Terms and Concepts in Intelligent Process Automation project. Sponsored by IEEE’s Board of Governors Corporate Advisory Group, the newly formed IEEE P2755 Working Group is defining initial terminology that addresses a range of applications spaces, including Robotic Process Automation, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cognitive Computing, Autonomics, Machine Learning and related technologies that enable businesses and governments to improve performance and lower costs.

“Artificial intelligence and autonomous systems (AS) are rapidly emerging technologies that hold great promise for humanity’s future,” said Konstantinos Karachalios, managing director for IEEE-SA. “lEEE is heavily involved in this space, particularly in regards to ensuring ethical alignment is prioritized as these technologies evolve. Clearly, agreed upon nomenclature is essential to standards development as it relates to ethics, interoperability, security and privacy, and just about every aspect of AI/AS, making IEEE P2755 a highly valued project added to IEEE’s agenda.”

“With a diverse panel of industry participants coming together to formalize a path forward, IEEE P2755 can build consensus for intelligent process automation terminology that sets the stage for collaborative standards development in a number of emerging fields,” said Lee Coulter, chair, IEEE Guide to Terms and Concepts in Intelligent Process Automation Working Group. “It’s important to establish a framework now that can evolve in step with related industry developments to ensure a commonality for understanding related products, services and concepts, and to help advance the market space for the benefit of all.”

Danny Major, Director of Services and Solutions at Thoughtonomy, commented “In a rapidly developing market, it is all too easy for buyers to become confused by language and terminology and a subsequent lack of clarity as to the product and solutions on offer. This valuable new standard, developed collaboratively by market leading vendors and providers, will undoubtedly help to provide clarity and allow those evaluating, buying, investing in, or building products and solutions to better understand the similarities and differentiation in relative offerings, and to focus on alignment to business requirements and outcomes rather than the nuances of language and terminology.”
