Wireless industry’s largest device database enables growing consumer base for mobile data
Seattle, WASHINGTON, April 25, 2007 - Volantis, the world’s leading supplier of Intelligent Content Adaptation™ solutions for the Mobile Internet today announced expanded device coverage for carrier and content providers delivering mobile content to their subscribers. Volantis’ device database now enables the optimal presentation of unique content – covering a broad range of static, dynamic and interactive content types -- on more than more than 4,000 mobile devices worldwide.
“Wireless carriers recognize that achieving significant growth in data ARPU is only possible if content can be accessed by a broad level of the population,” said Seamus McAteer, senior analyst, M:Metrics, the mobile market authority. “The increasing device diversity we see in markets globally could present a real barrier to driving data adoption. That barrier can be lowered through detailed knowledge of device performance, features and functionality.”
"Our mission is to expand the marketplace for the mobile Internet by increasing the availability of mobile content to consumers worldwide,” said John Beale, vice president, marketing at Volantis. "The aggressive expansion of our database helps fulfill our commitment to customers to aggressively drive consumer demand for their content.”
In the past fifteen months, Volantis has doubled the size of its device coverage, reflecting new customers in the US, Europe, China, the Asia Pacific and Africa. Approximately 150 devices have been added monthly to support more than 50 content provider and carrier customers.
The Volantis database is the wireless industry’s largest and most detailed, with each Volantis-registered device defined by as many as 650 feature and performance attributes. The growing catalog of phones reflects Volantis’ expanding customer base of established wireless carriers and new-to-mobile media and entertainment businesses. Legacy as well as newer mobile devices include 2G, 2.5G and 3G mobile handsets, smartphones, PDAs and other platforms covering GSM, GPRS, UMTS/WCDMA and CDMA2000 wireless standards.
The database covers such features as device OS, browser type, useable screen size, and video download capacity, plus MIME types and codecs for supported content types. The Volantis Mobile Content Framework™, a robust mobile content delivery platform, leverages the device database for the optimized delivery and presentation of pages, navigation & menus, messages, downloads, and client content, regardless of device type.
