webitpr’s Stephen Davies will be joining fellow digital PR practitioners at a London social media conference in May to help educate communication professionals about the online PR world.

The Don’t Panic Guide to Social Media which is held on May 23, 2008, is organised by Manchester based event management company, Don’t Panic Projects, and aims to bring together speakers from around the UK who specialise in social media and online PR.

Social Media Manager at webitpr, Stephen, will be speaking to delegates about the company’s Social Media News Release (SMNR), a new kind of press release which is aimed at the online world and incorporates many social media features.

The company launched its SMNR platform in June, 2007, and has since distributed SMNRs on behalf of a number of national and multinational organizations including, Sage, ITV, Cisco, Vauxhall and Sainsbury’s. Stephen will address a number of SMNR case studies and reference best practices on news distribution among the social media community.

Other speakers joining Stephen at the event come from diverse backgrounds and organisations including the not-for-profit, inhouse and agency PR sectors, and also a fulltime blogger.

Stephen said, “Once again, credit to the people at Don’t Panic Projects. They have organised what looks like an excellent conference which seemingly taps right into the current concerns of the PR industry.

“From our own first hand experience we know that PR professionals are looking to incorporate social media and online PR initiatives into their existing communications activity. However, there is still an element of educating that needs to be addressed among the general PR community and conferences like this help address that particular issue.”
